1.3 Billion - 633 Million Years ago.

Another supercontinent early in Earth's history, Rodinia's breakup was responsible for creating "Snowball Earth", a period of rapid and intense cooling that left almost the entire planet covered in a towering sheet of ice.

Life, still confined to the oceans, was almost extinguished during this apocalyptic freeze, but as the ice melted and the planet began to warm up again, the survivors would go on to create the richest period of speciation the world has ever known.

About[]

This world is only playable after Vaalbara has been completed. Completing Rodinia will unlock Cambria. This world is much, much easier than Vaalbara, having less than 10% its combined water. The strategy is relatively simple as well.

Like on Vaalbara, victory is achieved when reach 100% independence and have fulfilled either the mission Alana gave (paradise habitability) or the one Red gave (kept stats within 5% of original stats). The victory goal for the game choosed faction isn't need to complete.

Regardless of what did on Vaalbara, you can still choose to fulfill Red's or Alana's mission.

You have been granted access to a secret project under development by a foreign power: an automated system currently being taught how to terraform a planet.

One side wants you to terraform to Paradise, the other wants you to maintain the starting stats of the planet. it's up to you who to side with. At the time you reach completion for each world, your choice will be finalized in the computer's memory.

Strategy[]

Much like Vaalbara, this planet has a lot of water will need to get rid of if want to get it to paradise habitability. Be sure to decrease the amount of water before increase the temperature, because if increase the temperature too fast, the planet will flood.

When start getting rid of Rodinia's water, the planet's brown patches start growing rapidly (results of which can be seen in the image below). This is because the ice covers the brown planet, so it gets exposed when remove the ice. The game won't call Rodinia 'snowball Earth' for no reason.

BE WARNED: If playing with biospheres, the Lyngbya in the planet’s biosphere can wipe out the colony’s population, so rushing research on and building Children's Creches in each city is key to avoid that.

How Volcanoes Froze the Earth (Twice)

  • Rodinia was a supercontinent that formed from the fragments of the previous supercontinent Columbia 1.26 billion years ago, and broke up 750–630 million years ago. The fragments of Rodinia then joined into Pannotia, which only lasted 50 million years, before Laurentia, Baltica, and Siberia broke off from what will then be Gondwana (South America, Africa, India, Australia, and Antarctica).
  • This period of Earth's history is also called "snowball Earth" (720–630 Ma), because during this period Earth was almost completely frozen, because of an ice house environment. This period ended right before Cambrian explosion — the event when life on Earth developed a lot of species in a short period of time.
