It is time for the Far-Future Institute to take its place among the great powers of humanity. Transforming this hellish world will demonstrate that we are a force to be reckoned with!

Taming Fire is a live event that runs occasionally, usually starting at 12am UTC on some Saturdays. During the event's runtime it can be reached by tapping an icon of Gedi underneath the icon that allows you to Fast-Forward worlds. Tapping the event icon would take you directly to the event planet Gedi. The world is played with the Far-Future Institute faction.

Multiple milestones can be reached in the event, each giving different rewards.

This event starts with the Culture values that come with the Far Future Institute, and you are still restricted to the faction's culture limit (No Wealth Values) until you built the Lagrange Academy.

Strategy

A lot of things have to be researched, for you have to increase the oxygen, lower the heat, raise pressure, and raise sea level. All these stats needing to be changed is what makes this a some what difficult LTE.

  • Rush Spaceports and use them as a source of revenue.
    • Taming Fire

Post from TerraGenesis' Facebook for the live event.

"Rushing" refers to using GP to speed up researching a facility.
    • Use the "transmission for 2×" boost occasionally.
    • You need to get at least 50,000,000c and about 100 GP or more to construct the Soletta, which will allow you to freely adjust heat.
      • Completing the live event without the Soletta is possible, but it is less efficient than using the satellite and not recommended.
  • Also use Spaceports to increase pressure.
  • Research Hab Complexes to get more slots to build and increase oxygen.
  • Once the Soletta is constructed, enable it and set temperature goal to 187,200 mK to decrease the temperature as fast as possible.
    • Set it any lower and it will disable the Soletta.
    • It will take approximately 30 minutes to reach the temperature milestone if you stay in the game.
    • It will take approximately 9 minutes to reach the temperature milestone if you close the game and then rejoin it after the 9 minutes.
    • Once the first milestone is completed, set the Soletta goal to as close to 300,000 mK as possible for maximum amount of water in liquid form.
      • Setting the Soletta goal to 300,000 mK or higher will not allow you to finish the first milestone.
  • Use Comet Slings to increase water.
  • Construct outposts and mines and wait for the Overflow event.
    • This will help you finish the fourth milestone faster.

Random Events

These random events can only happen during this live event.

Taming Fire

A previously dormant volcano has erupted, as the artifically-cooled surface of Gedi attempts to remelt-beneath us! [number between 1 and 2] of our facilites have been destroyed:

- [facility] in [city].

Destroys one or two random facilities. These facilities can be in different cities.

In-Game Text

Good, you're here. There's a lot to do, so let's get started:

My name is Keahi Malae, I'm the director of the Far-Future Institute. We've made a name for ourselves over the years by pioneering some of the greatest scientific and engineering projects in human history. Until recently we've been content to advise and do contract work for others, but it's becoming increasingly clear that the various factions of humanity are wasting the potential of human achievement. Too blinded by greed and power and religious or revolutionary dogma, they bicker and compete while humanity slowly approaches its greatest leap yet: becoming an interstellar species.

Our scientists have discovered a planet named Gedi, a hellish world covered in lava oceans, but otherwise holding all the potential for human life. If you can help us tame it and turn it into a new home for our people, it will show the rest of humanity that the FFI is ready to lead the way into the future.

So what do you say? Can you handle the fires of Gedi? Can you usher in the age of the Far-Future Institute?

Milestones

Milestones can be viewed by clicking the event icon (in this case it looks like the Random Planet Generator) while you are already on the event world.

This is also the place where you collect your rewards after you have completed the milestones.

You can earn these milestones in any order (except the last one, that one is last).

Solid Ground

The first step is obvious: this planet is way too hot. Set up a base camp on one of the volcanic islands and begin cooling down the surface. Eventually the lava oceans will harden, and we'll be able to begin surface operations in earnest.

Goal: Decrease temperature to 300,000 mK

Rewards: 2,000,000c

Text after achievement:

Nicely done. The surface of Gedi is now much more tolerable and we'll be able to start expanding our operations without worrying about our, installations and equipment, you know, melting. Go ahead and move onto the next phase: the first hurdle has been cleared.

Nature Abhors a Vacuum

Once the surface has been cooled, our next step will be to begin seeding the atmosphere of Gedi. We can't do much until there's enough air pressure to support surface operations without an environment suit.

Goal: Increase pressure to 90,000 Pa

Rewards: Rewards: Bronze Governor Pack, 5,000,000c

Text after achievement:

Well done again! The latest findings indicate that this is the first time Gedi has had any significant atmosphere in its 2 billion year history. Not bad for the new arrivals! Now we just need to make it a little more hospitable.

Breathing Deeply

An atmosphere is great, but we won't be able to do much without oxygen. Once there's enough of an atmosphere to work with, start converting it into oxygen until our people can breathe openly on the surface.

Goal: Increase oxygen to 200,000 ppm.

Rewards: 30 GP, Bronze Governor Pack x3, 10,000,000c

Text after achievement:

Excellent work! I've been reviewing your reports, and they're showing great progress across the board. There's really nothing like taking your first breath on a new world, is there? All that's left now is to get some water on the surface and we'll be done!

On Alien Shores

Alright, we've already got people working out on the surface of Gedi now, but in order to sustain a large population we'll need something other than a barren desert. Raise some oceans on the surface of this word, and we'll officially be able to declare success in this endeavor.

Goal: Increase sea level to 3,500,000 cm

Rewards: Silver Governor Pack, 12 Fast-Forward Hours, 60 GP

Text after achievement:

There it is! A beautiful new world, covered in rich volcanic soil just waiting for new life. Excellent work, my friend, you have secured a place for the Far-Future Institute among the great powers of humanity.

Taming Fire

It is time for the Far-Future Institute to take its place among the great powers of humanity. Transforming this hellish world will demonstrate that we are a force to be reckoned with!

Goal: Complete all milestones

Rewards: 10 cards for Kehai Malae, 48 Fast-Forward Hours

Text after achievement:

For too long, humanity has been led by short-sighted rulers and despots who would rather believe their own lies than face the truths that science can reveal. But that day is finally ending.

Thanks to you, the Far-Future Institute is being recognized as one of the most powerful groups in human-controlled space, and we're not going anywhere. It's time for the experts to take the reigns of power. No longer will politicians or captains of industry decide the course of human history. We will lead our species into a new future, one where expertise is respected and where science reigns supreme.

Thank you for your help, my friend. Thanks to you, the future is bright for science, for humanity, and for the Far-Future Institute.

Important: only press 'Complete Event' when you are ready to leave the event world, because you cannot continue playing that same world after that. You also can't restart and complete this event more than once.

Trivia

  • This live event used to give less rewards as it existed before the 5.15 update that added in legendary governors.
    • "On Alien Shores" gave 12 Fast-Forward Hours and 60 GP instead of Silver Governor Pack, 12 Fast-Forward Hours, and 60 GP.
    • Other milestones gave the same rewards.
